Set against the backdrop of Guyana's lush, untamed wilderness and tempestuous economic tides, "Guyana In the Shadows of the Amazon" is a gripping saga of adventure, mystery, and the relentless pursuit of prosperity in a land reborn.
Venture into the heart of Guyana's untamed wilderness with "Guyana In the Shadows of the Amazon," a mystery where the quest for prosperity becomes a perilous journey. In 1979, the crews of "The MV Miss Sheredah" and "The MV Miss Rosita" set sail to exploit newly discovered, lucrative fishing grounds off Guyana's coast. Laden with hopes and ice for preserving their catch, they unexpectedly encounter ghostly ships from bygone wars, now rumored to be lawless outposts on the high seas.
As modern-day investigators probe the incident, driven by the environmental damage from ongoing oil exploration, they unravel a complex web of illegal trade and piracy. Their findings expose a deep-seated collusion of myths and global deceit, leading to a thrilling climax where the past and present collide dramatically.
This gripping narrative of survival, betrayal, and the quest for truth dives deep into the dark waters of history and human greed, offering a stark look at the consequences of tampering with nature and legacy.
Their mysterious disappearance after encountering these spectral vessels sparks a decades-long puzzle that confounds both locals and authorities. Years later, a captain’s log is discovered among the wreckage of one boat, revealing a deadly skirmish with unknown forces, marking a frantic, final entry before vanishing into the abyss.

Rabindra N. Prasad, affectionately known as "Taz," is an environmental advocate, commercial fisherman, educator, and storyteller shaped by the beauty and challenges of the Guyana Shield. Born under the majestic bamboo clumps at Jackson Creek, a remote area nestled on the western bank of the mighty Corentyne River, Taz’s early life began in a humble ‘Manicole Palm’ benab built by his father in the shadows of the Amazon.
After completing his secondary and college education, Taz pursued a career as a science teacher, specializing in physics and environmental studies. However, his passion for the natural world extended beyond the classroom. His investments in fishing along the Atlantic coastline granted him unique insights into the struggles of fishermen battling poverty, piracy, and the relentless forces of nature in their pursuit of a livelihood from the sea.
Through these experiences, Taz witnessed the destructive forces of ignorance, greed, and lawlessness, which compounded the hardships of life along the Amazon. He saw firsthand how uncontrolled hunting, fishing, and logging devastated ecosystems, and how entire bird species were eradicated by poachers. At the same time, Taz’s heart was with the fisherfolk—ordinary people who faced unspeakable losses from piracy, mourning fathers, brothers, and loved ones who perished in the unforgiving Atlantic, often with no grave or headstone to honor their memory.
Taz strives to raise awareness about environmental conservation and advocate for justice for fisherfolk and wildlife alike. His passion for storytelling, coupled with his commitment to protecting nature reflects his enduring mission: to inspire change, promote sustainability, and honor the legacy of the forgotten voices lost to piracy and environmental degradation.
